Will there be another TITANIC?

The novelty of building a Titanic 2 has been thought of, and an Irish Tycoon even announced he wanted to build a Titanic 2 by 2001, but obviously, that never happened. I'd like to see a Titanic 2; it's not like it would be disrespectful of the people that died on the ship. However, I'd like one that would have modern-day engines, capacity of lifeboats, and safety features while not changing the rest of the interior, nor exterior. I'd also like for there not to be separations by class, and giving the passengers full reign of the parts allowed for the passengers. The problem is that people would be reenacting Jack and Rose on the bow, while it's unsafe with it being 30 feet above the water. Maybe passengers shouldn't be allowed at the bow. The bridge could be state of the art design, all the while keeping the 1912 style. The wireless operating room would be a museum, since the communications would be at the bridge. The problem is that building the 882 1/2 feet long vessel is not cheap. The cost of building the ship in 1912 was the equal of 2.1 billion dollars in today's money. Also, the cabins on the ship wouldn't be cheap. The Parlor Suites (the best staterooms on the ship) costed the equal of $100,000 in today's money. The lifeboats would be white and modern, and there would be enough to carry more than the passengers on board. Think about it! The Titanic would finally reach New York and the ship, would regain her former glory. Yes I am dreaming, but it was just a thought. Who knows? maybe someone will rebuild the Titanic one day. Wouldn't it be a sight to see?

R.M.S. TITANIC vs. Titanic Movie

Here are just a few differences between the movie Titanic of 1997 and the real TITANIC:


1. The Grand Staircase:
The movie made the Grand Staircase almost perfectly except for the lower banister which was made bigger. In the real TITANIC, two people could barely go up it side by side. The movie made the dome above it collapse when all of my calculations say that the water met the dome inside at the same time the water met it outside. Plus, I don't think that the windows imploded until the ship reached the bottom.

2. The Dining Room:
The movie made the set smaller than the actual ship. The real TITANIC could support up to 554 passengers in the Dining Room. No glass was broken because when researchers went into the Dining Room, the windows were there in almost perfect condition.

3. Rose/Straus Suite:
In the movie, they added an extra room which contained a safe. In the real TITANIC, the Straus Suite had two bedrooms (like in the movie), a private bathroom, a sitting room (like in the movie), and a privately enclosed 50 foot long promenade deck. Instead of a Pablo Picasso painting, there was a mirror (Pablo was not as popular back then and his work was not widely distributed).

4. Jack Dawson and Rose Bukater
There is a J. Dawson but he was actually named James Dawson and he was a lamp trimmer and stoker. There was no Rose Bukater on the TITANIC.

5. The Heart of the Ocean
There is and was no Heart of the Ocean. There is however a Hope Diamond which looks very similar. It now rests in the Smithsonian and is said to be cursed.

6. The 1st class Smoking Room:
The Smoking Room was almost perfect in the movie except for the fact that the painting in the movie was of the entrance to New York instead of the entrance into Plymouth Harbor.

7. Passengers and Crew's Deaths:
There were many inaccurate deaths in the movie like John Jacob Asto8 of which is seen in the movie as being in the Grand Staircase when it sank but the real Astor was crushed by the forward funnel. The Strauses were depicted comforting each-other in bed as water swirled into their cabin but they actually sat in two deck chairs (Mr. Straus's body was later recovered). 1st officer Murdoch was shown in the movie shooting himself but all who knew him said he didn't and they have only two accounts and they could be of another officer (Murdoch's body was never recovered). It is unknown what happened to Captain Smith. The movie shows him in the bridge until the end and there are some accounts of him going into the bridge. However, some say that they saw Captain Smith in the water with a lifejacket on. It is unknown what also happened to Chief Officer Wilde of whom was depicted in the movie as the one in the water blowing a whistle.

My Review on Ghosts of the Abyss

Ghosts of the Abyss was filmed ironically in September of 2001 and in fact was still at sea during 9/11. The movie is great to watch for the whole family. The only trouble is that Bill Paxton uses swear words a little bit and the ghosts may give the little ones bad dreams. The movie basically takes you to the TITANIC and you're able to see what the Reception Room, Ismay Suite, and other things inside the TITANIC that have not been seen since April 14/15, 1912. The ghosts are basically just images that walk down the decks or look at a mirror or other things to show you a comparison of what the ship looked like then and now. It stars Bill Paxton, James Cameron (whom directed the famed blockbuster film TITANIC), and Ken Marschall taking these two robots and exploring places that no-one else has seen in over 96 years. What's really cool is that in the end, one of the bots' string gets severed and they show you it getting rescued. There's so much seen in there like these windows in the Reception Room, the A-Deck sign, wooden and brass beds, the remains of tables, medicine bottles, a cup where someone had last left it, and other spectacular things.

This summer, there will be a movie called TITANIC: Return two the surface. I completely am against it and urge all of you not to see it. It is a sequel of the 1997
James Cameron where they find this Jack character in ice at the bottom of the grand staircase in the wreck and bring him back to the surface. They melt the ice and find that he's still alive. He's kept prisoner until he escapes and finds that Rose dies and then meets her granddaughter. He later marries her but there's some inappropriate content. It's rated PG-13 and I especially do not recommend it for children of all ages.

Isador Straus was born on Febuary 6, 1845 in Otterberg Germany to a Jewish family. At age 9, he and his family moved to Talbotton, Georgia. When the civil war broke out, they sold bonds and other things to the confederate soldiers and made a small profit. In 1889, Isador married Rosalie Ida Blun whom was born in 1849 in Worms, Germany. They had 6 children together and Mr. Straus was very successful in selling china and other trinkets in Macy's department store in partnership with his brother, Nathan. After Macy died, Macy's son was drunk all the time so Isador and his brother Nathan (Nathan later also co-owned Abraham and Straus along with Levi and Straus)bought the store, becoming co-owners since Macy willed that the store remain in the family. They became millionaires seemingly over night! Isador was even congressman (Democrat) from January 30, 1894-March 30, 1895. The Strauses went to Europe in 1912 for both a nice vacation, and to buy things for Macy's. One of the things that they bought, was a set of china which they sent on ahead and is in my family. They were traveling home after a wonderful time, and were coming home on the Titanic. The Strauses were very appealing to the millionaires on board not just because he was the co-owner of Macy's, but because he and his wife were very respectable and well known throughout the societies of England, New York, and Philadelphia. Isador was worth $50 million dollars because of owning Macy’s. But on the fourth night of April 14th, 1912, the Strauses were talking with the Wideners, when they felt a little bump and the Strauses went up on deck. They saw the lifeboats being lowered. A man offered a place in the boat for Mr. Straus because of his age, but he refused. Then when Ida stepped in the lifeboat, then stepped out and said, “We have been together for many years. Where you go, I go!” Like Ruth and Naomi in the bible, this convinced Isador. They let their maid, Ellen Bird onto a lifeboat. They were last seen on deck holding hands on deck. Isador's body was recovered by the Mackey Bennet. There were 40,000 people at their funeral/memorial service. In the 1997 movie Rose, Cal, and Ruth occupy the Strauss suite. They were portrayed in a scene where Ida refused to leave her husband, but got cut. They were in a later scene in the bed (which didn't happen). There's a memorial to them in New York and also a school. That's also where Isador is buried. Ida's body was unfortunately never recovered.
